Corporate bond issuance hits a September record as issuers lock in rates before the busy season

21 Sep 2026 PreRatings Research

Corporate bond issuance scaled a fresh September high as finance teams rushed to lock in funding costs ahead of what markets expect to be a tougher October review. The surge was led by top-rated AAA and AA issuers, many of whom priced through the secondary curve on the strength of robust investor demand.

The issuance mix has tilted toward shorter tenors as treasurers hedge against further rate uncertainty, with three-to-five-year paper accounting for the largest share of new deals.
